Please follow this link to view the latest edition online nowhttp://www.ctstevenage.co.uk/magazine/apr2009/ I think that running your own business requires one to be the human equivalent of a swiss army knife, in that the work has been as varied as it is satifying, VERY! This month I have found myself doing tasks I never thought I would be doing, such as a delivery boy since I wanted to learn this business from the ground up. It is not all bad as I have seen people and visited places I had not seen for some time.I also design adverts, chase payments, edit the magazine, write articles and editorials, liase with the printers, follow up calls to make sure clients are happy, attend meetings, take advise from both a production and design team. I also speak to competitors and other Community Times editors as well as sales, help out in the community and some how find time to read the papers too.So next time someone says to you " hey don't you know advertising don't work" I say so why is there a multi million pound industry based on it? and why am I doing all this work?
It is not easy starting your own business especially this time of year. After an initial flurry of business, trade has slowed somewhat. Now is the time to advertise since the consumer is looking for change.
Probably the most famous person to walk the orange glow of Stevenage at night is Lewis Hamilton and I do not mean to name drop but I know people who went to school with him, people who have carried out work for(not directly) him and others who were at least met his father many a time until about 10 years ago. I can even honestly say my Fiancee danced with him when they were toddlers, but whilst I have the utmost respect for the guy, what about the other unsung heroes of Stevenage? Mr Rupert Grint a.k.a Ron Weasley from Harry Potter. We attended the same school, although not at the same time, me being a few years his senior. And I can tell you our dinner hall was something of a less Glamorous version of the one from Hogwarts, but the similarity is there, with the dark oak finish and old fashion plaques adorning many walls. In case you are wondering the school in question is Richard Hale School in Hertford. An ex grammer school that once educated the great sir Henry Wordsworth. As is often the case Mr Grint did not actually live in Stevenage itself, but on the fringe, none the less still a good lad, i am told by those that met him. Thats all for now
